Forage Oakland Seeks Summer and Autumn Interns

Forage Oakland
Seeking Summer and Autumn Interns for the High Harvest Season.

The Summer Intern should be available between 31 May and 31 August
The Autumn Intern should be available between 1 September and 1 December

Main Responsibilities:

Provide a helping hand on harvest missions, which will happen almost daily during the high harvest season, which is the middle of June through the beginning of December. Starting middle of June, stone fruit will be ready for harvest, and Forage Oakland will be quite busy through December, which marks the end of persimmon season.

It would also be excellent if you were available to make fruit deliveries, which are generally made in the mornings and afternoons during the weekdays. Deliveries are often left on door steps when the recipient is at work. A bit of office work will be required, too, and we can shape that around your particular interests, i.e. updating the mailing list; sending email updates regarding Forage Oakland events; emailing members to inquire about fruit ripeness, etc.

I am looking for someone who is reliable; has a relatively flexible schedule (often, harvest times are variable and depend on home occupant's availability); and is genuinely passionate about any or all of these issues: urban fruit; food politics; alternative economies, i.e. gift economies and bartering; meeting/feeding the neighbors; bicycles. It would be an added bonus if you or someone you know might be willing to lead skill share workshops around fruit preservation.

To apply, please follow the below instructions and submit application by 15 May 2009. The Autumn Intern application deadline is 15 August 2009.

You must have a bicycle, preferably with front and rear baskets so that we might transport much fruit.

Knowledge of Bay Area fruit is an advantage, but is not required. Internships are unpaid, unless- amazingly- there is a grant this summer.

Application Instructions

In the body of an email (send to forageoakland@gmail.com), please answer the following questions:

What is your name?
How do you normally occupy your time in the Bay Area?
Why do you think you would be well suited for this internship? Please be specific.
If you think including a resume or CV might be helpful, then do. It is not required, however.
How can I best contact you?

Thanks for your interest!

Best,
Asiya at Forage Oakland
